mine works just as it is supposed to August 14, 2010 Milkweed (BeerTown) I hunted a long time for one of these things and read many many reviews of both weather radios w/ alert function and table-top alert only devices. Finally settled on this one. I have had no problems with it, it is functioning just as it is supposed to. I do make sure to change the batteries regularly. It is loud. Our house is only 1000 sq ft so we can hear it in every room, even with doors shut. Yes I did program my own SAME codes for my county and the counties that border mine. It was not all that difficult. I also customized which alerts do not sound and I didn't find that difficult either. I have to say I'm very pleased with it.I also have a Voyager radio. The Voyager does not receive very well in the city. It seems to have trouble staying tuned in and will even miss alerts. I have NOT had that problem with the First Alert table top unit - it has received everything I have not blocked. Can't say that for the radio - have had them both tuned in and on at the same time and the radio will fade out its broadcast of the weather band in the city but the First Alert will receive and report the alert.
Great So Far! July 20, 2010 ebuyer (Chicago, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this for peace of mind and it works great. We haven't had a major storm to really test this radio, but so far, I like the way it works, the features and the usability. And I found it pretty easy to program. The SAME programming is important so you don't get woken up in the middle of the night with warnings that are not in close proximity. Another nice feature is you can use regular batteries or rechargeable ones, and the unit will keep your rechargeable batteries charged while it's plugged in. You will need to go online or call a toll free number to get the stations and SAME codes near you, but that wasn't a big deal for me.
great radio for a reasonable price July 19, 2010 colorado Karen (denver, co) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With the crazy weather happening all over the country, I thought it was time I buy an emergency weather radio. After reviewing numerous ones, I chose the First Alert with S.A.M.E I'm very happy with my choice. Aside from being a reliable brand, it was easy to program, even for someone not technology gifted. I liked it so much and the price was reasonable that I bought 3 more for my adult children.
nice radio July 15, 2010 Terry Sargent (Port Huron, MI) It is easy to set up and it has worked very well. In fact it went off about an hour ago saying a large storm would be here, and it's here.
Simple and Efective July 3, 2010 JP 1 Relative easy to use.
2 Allow to cancel unwanted alarms, so the day run off is because something that you should know.
3 Better than other more expensive units
