Product Description
Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America and identity theft protection is a major concern for individuals, businesses and government. Stamp out identity theft with an Identity Theft Guard Stamp. Identity Theft Guard Stamps use a special pattern to hide confidential information and is a quick and effective method of identity theft protection. Use to hide your address, social security number, account numbers or ID numbers on junk mail, magazines, catalogs, credit card offers, bills and more before recycling. This stamp features a self-contained, reversible ink pad. Ordinary ink pads offer a certain number of impressions before they begin to fade. Not so with a reversible pad. When the impression begins to fade, simply slide the pad out, flip it over and reinsert to instantly double the life. This Identity Theft Protection Stamp is provided as a means of theft protection but cannot guarantee against identity theft.

Customer Reviews:
1 out of 5 stars Great in theory. Regrettably, useless in practice.   August 29, 2010
Bill Firedrake (VA USA)
I confess that I really, really wanted this stamp to be everything I thought it would. I don't have a shredder, and unfortunately I don't have the money to get one any time soon. Furthermore, I feel like I can't justify the cost of one; in this day and age, most of my sensitive information comes through internet notifications such as e-mail, rather than through postal mail. Nonetheless, I bought this stamp as a substitute for a shredder for use on the few documents I receive by mail. After only a few uses, however, I realized that the product is useless.

First off, don't even bother using this on glossy or non-porous paper. The ink will not easily adhere, and will float on top of the sheet for hours. When the ink does eventually dry, the color is too light. Underlying sensitive information can be easily seen through the scramble pattern. Secondly, this ink coloring issue extends to pretty much all printed mail; unless the ink on the mail is the exact same shade as the stamp's ink, it takes only a little maneuvering to see the information underneath. Thirdly, the stamp doesn't apply the ink evenly. After only a few uses, a void has developed in the middle of the stamp pattern, leaving a field of scrambled characters with a hole in the middle. This means that I have to stamp multiple times to cover the sensitive information, which not only brings the inkpad one step closer to drying out and needing replacement, but also renders the scramble pattern useless because the overlapping parts create a solid black blot that is more easily seen through than the scramble pattern itself. But, besides all of these "minor" concerns, the worst of all is that the stamp is fundamentally flawed. Even if the stamp used the perfect ink and applied evenly every time, I am still not convinced it would do its job properly. I have read several reviews of this product from concerned consumers who stated that a simple combination of household solutions, when applied, wipes the redacting ink away and exposes everything underneath it. Of course, this part of my review is hearsay and you are therefore entitled to disbelieve it, but wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?

The bottom line: This stamp is a poor substitute for a shredder. Sure, it may deter amateurs, but if a determined identity thief is rummaging through your garbage, would you really feel safe betting your identity on him being one? If you are really concerned about your personal papers falling into the wrong hands but can't afford a shredder, take my advice and just burn them. This stamp will do you no good.

5 out of 5 stars Coolest invention since the Kindle :-)   May 25, 2010

I just received this stamp yesterday and immediately started stamping on my pile of 'shredables'!!! LOVE IT! I pile up my shredables because I have a 21-month old who does not yet know what the black box does, and I don't want him knowing anytime soon. Then I usually forget when he's asleep to do the chore of shredding all my bills, etc, so they tend to pile up. Also, because I let them pile up, I have been sending junk mail with my address on it through to the trash/recycle. Now, with just a quick stamp, I can have the security of shredding without the actual hassle and mess! I will likely still send my sensitive documents to the shredder, but this stamp is fabulous at the mountains of junk mail and regular bills that I get! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! In fact, I am going to order a bunch to give out as gifts!!! This really is a cool product!

5 out of 5 stars What a time saver!   May 24, 2010

I love this item. I can stamp over the addresses on magazines and junk mail instead of tearing them off and shredding them...or put them in a box to be shredded later. Much more efficient.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product!   May 15, 2010

Just got my stamp yesterday. It was way bigger than I thought too (I got the large version). I figured it'd be big enough to cover just an address on an envelope, but it has quite a coverage area greater than that! Works great too! I hate shredder giblets all over the floor and constantly having to unclog it. You really cannot read anything underneath this stamp! Excellent invention!

1 out of 5 stars Changed my review from 4 stars to 1.   April 22, 2010

Originally, I said, "I like using my noisy shredder less often, and having to deal with the messy, bulky shreddings less often."

Now, after only 2 months, and approximately 200 uses, the ink in my stamp has already started running low, and seems to almost enhance the information instead of hide it. So, I have returned to using my noisy shredder. Disappointing, but perhaps I was expecting too much from such an inexpensive stamp.
